Jechonias S. James, Esq.

Jechonias is characterized by his acumen and diligence, which is a product of his unique professional background. Prior to a career in law, Jechonias served 11 years in the United States Navy and Navy Reserve. While on active duty, he deployed as flight crew on the P-3 Orion, an integrated maritime surveillance aircraft, to provide operational support to Commander Task Force units around the world. Upon separating active duty, he served in the United States Navy Reserve in a similar capacity.

Jechonias’ legal experiences span both the public and private sector, and he has worked to advocate on behalf of clients in civil and criminal settings in one of the nation’s largest unified court systems. He maintains a methodical and pragmatic approach to complex problems, and has handled the negotiation and documentation of credit facility, loan, and other commercial transactions ranging from $1 million to $50 million dollars. In 2020, Jechonias stood up a tax practice at a St. Thomas law firm, where he served as primary counsel on matters involving individual, partnership, and corporate taxation. He routinely advises on estate planning and probate matters, which has included representing clients in probate proceedings to structuring complex trust agreements.

Jechonias finds his most rewarding work in being of useful service to others. He serves as a volunteer coach for the Virgin Islands Bar Association Moot Court Competition. He also volunteers his time as a pianist at local churches, and strives to contribute to the Virgin Islands community in a meaningful way. Jechonias is a registered U.S. Virgin Islands Notary Public.
